Thing 11: Linked In

Linked In is a great tool to connect with professional organizations or individuals, like other social networking sites, it's linked to your email which recognizes individuals to make connections. I had already used the site, I'm still a little new though . I haven't completed my entire profile yet .This site would definately help patrons in creating a profile that would definetly make it easier for a hiring individual to look at somebody's profile.

Thing 10: Library Thing

Library Thing is pretty neat. I think patron can definitely benefit from this site, they can read reviews, join different groups and read recommendations. The site also give you any local events that are coming up in your area. Not bad!! :)

Thing 9: Delicious

Delicious to the rescue! I wish I would of known about this site a long time ago. This will certainly help with all the bookmarks that I tend to mark all over the place, especially when you work at different work station. This will definitely help with organizing reference sites and it will also improve customer service.

Thing 8: Tagging

Tagging seems to be a very useful tool for people that use keywords to find information in any profession. I'm sure the catalog uses some form of tagging. It does help find information faster.Everybody seems to want information fast. It would definitely benefit patrons at the library.

Thing 7: IM - Instant Messaging

I've used IM before. I've used several different software, I think the first was AOL back in the day. A couple at work, which is probably the best way to communicate to other staff members. As far as for using it to communicate with patrons, will probably not be the best thing, I think if people want to use IM, that's what they expect Instant Messaging. There are time when staff is too busy and might take a while to answer a question. Great for staff use but not to communicate with the public. That's my opinion.

Thing 6: Digg

Wow! Did you all see this video, man, I actually had to get up and take a break!...WHAT! it was only 8 to 9 minutes long?...for a second I thought the video was on a loop too.

Anyway, digg? not too bad, the fun thing to see are some of the more crazy stories. As far as the digg lingo, I don't think it will catch on... it's been used in the 70's "Can you digg it!....

Thing 5: Twitter

Twitt, Twitt, honestly I've never cared much to tweet. I'm not a big fan of tweeter. I just can see even people following me. I know people get on and tweet all the time and post everything that their doing. Some of the things we don't even want to know or care.
 I can see it used on emergency or life threatening situations, instant news. Now the library could benefit from this, for example making announcement of general events, letting people know about summer reading, and storytimes events. People will have real time information the ongoing  events. Does a make a great impact....I don't think so!....but it will benefit the library some....

Thing 4: Picture Sharing

Talk about a great way of saving your photos! It's much easier to share photos with families and friends. I have actually actually heard and seen Flickr but had not gotten in there to explore that much. First of all, I think Flickr can improve their site with some color or graphics. I know the pictures are the main focus, but it seems that there's a lot of white background, and seems very plain and boring. In searching through some of the libraries that use this service, I found  a couple of sites to have some interesting pictures and themes. Some of them focused primarily on the youth programs, which is fine, but I know libraries have many more events that they can consider sharing with the public. In all its good! I'm definitely going to upload some pictures, as soon as I have a chance!

Thing 3: RSS Feeds

Creating an RSS Feed which alert you of any updates from your favorite is pretty cool. In terms of how it relates to customer service. I can see how the public can benefit if they subscribe and the feed alerts them about new books that just arrived at library. Perhaps, a patron may want to know what classes are being offered and when are they able to register for that  class that they want. Now, would people want to subscribe to RSS feeds like these? maybe.

This blog reader is pretty neat, saves the time on going to different websites or blogs you want to follow. It's a little like going to grocery store and finding everything you need in one aisle! Not bad!
